Once children have completed Levels 1 and 2 of our "Be My Disciple" program (formerly "Faith First"), they are ready for their First Communion and Reconciliation Preparation classes in Level 3. Through Communion children will receive the body and blood of Christ and in Reconciliation (confession), children will receive the grace of God through forgiveness.
The Sacramental Preparation classes take place during weeknights -- once every 2 weeks from January to May for a total of 8 classes of 1 hour and 15 min. When registering, parents will be able to choose the weekday that works best for their child -- this year they will get to choose either Monday evenings from 6:45-8pm or Tuesday evenings from 6:45-8pm.
The workbook used for First Communion Preparation is "We Share in the Eucharist" which is provided to every child at the first class.
The program also includes sessions for the parents to allow them to journey with their children with a full understanding of what these sacraments mean.
Children must attend mass 2 times per month during their preparation and have their books signed after mass so that they have the opportunity to see and meet the people of the parish and become familiar with the traditions and procedures of the mass, and of our parish in particular. They may attend either the Saturday afternoon masses at the parish centre at 4pm or Sunday morning masses at the church at 9am (note that as part of the changes in our diocese this year, we may move to an 11am Sunday mass beginning later this fall).
Finally, in order to fulfill the requirements of their First Communion Preparation, children must attend Holy Thursday Mass as well as the rehearsal for their ceremony and the First Communion ceremony which generally takes place the first Sunday in June.
Registration for First Communion and Reconciliation Preparation (Level 3) will take place from November 1 to 15 here on our website. Note that only children who have completed 2 years of Faith Education may register.
The fee is $150 payable at the time of registration.
Note: If you are interested in First Communion, but your child has not completed "Be My Disciples" Classes Levels 1 and 2 and is entering grades 1 or 2 this fall, you will need to register them for "Be My Disciples" Level 1 here from August 15 to September 15.
For children in grades 3 or older who have not done any classes, please contact Anny at email@example.com to find out what your options are.
